Box Score
LOUISVILLE, KY -
Sarah Lemieux (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) registered nine saves in a sterling performance in goal, but an early Bellarmine goal proved to be difference as the Knights were able to hang on for a 1-0 win over the IUP field hockey team on Saturday.
The contest figured to be a high-scoring affair after Rachael Walz knocked in a penalty corner from Rachel McAllister just 3:59 into the first half, but goals were impossible to come by for either team from that point on.
The Crimson Hawks had their looks throughout the game, notching eight shots on goal in the first half and 10 in the second, but Bellarmine goalie Paris Bryant was fantasic in the cage, recording 11 saves en route to the shutout win.
IUP newcomers
Nicole Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) and sister
Kate Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) were impressive in their first game as Crimson Hawks, combining for six shots on goal.
Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) had five shots for IUP but was only able to place one on goal. Lemieux responded to the early Bellarmine goal in a big way, tallying seven consecutive saves to keep the deficit to a minimum.
The Crimson Hawks continue their Kentucky road trip tomorrow afternoon when they take on Lindenwood at 1:30 p.m.
