INDIANA, PA - Kate Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) assisted on two of three second-half goals for the Crimson Hawks as the fourth-ranked IUP field hockey team downed eighth-ranked LIU Post 3-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action Friday.

Locked in a scoreless tie at the half, the Crimson Hawks dominated the second period of play, relentlessly attacking the goal and shutting down the Pioneer offense. IUP had a chance to take a lead in the first half when Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) stepped up for a penalty shot, but Post goalie Becca May was there to make the stop and preserve the tie.

The Crimson Hawks would get another opportunity to cash in on a penalty shot early in the second half, and Anouk Sickman (Antwerp, Belgium/Lazac Cellepe) would take advantage. She drove her attempt past the diving May to give IUP a 1-0 lead at the 38:43 mark.

LIU Post would not go down without a fight, however, as Keliann Margiotta would rebound a shot from Carlee Dragon and knock it past IUP goalie Sarah Lemieux (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) to knot the game at 1-1 less than a minute later.

In need of a goal to break the draw, it was the Bruce sisters who answered the call, as Kate found Nicole Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) for an easy goal from the top of the circle to give the Crimson Hawks a 2-1 lead with just over 16 minutes to play in the game.

IUP would tack on an insurance goal at the 64:26 mark when Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) finished off another Kate Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) assist, and it was business as usual for the Crimson Hawks defense, who shut down any Pioneer attempts at a comeback.

Lemieux played the entire game in goal for IUP and had four saves, while May went the distance for LIU Post and recorded eight saves. As a team, the Crimson Hawks ousthot the Pioneers 12-8.

IUP continues its homestand tomorrow afternoon against East Stroudsburg. Game time at Miller Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m.
