Field Hockey Staves off Cold for 5-2 win over Bellarmine

Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Kate Bruce (Clarks Summit/Lackawanna Trail) scored two goals to help IUP to a 5-2 non-conference field hockey win over Bellarmine on Thursday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

It was the third straight victory for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 6-9 on the season.

Both of Bruce's scores came in the first half as the Crimson Hawks took 3-0 lead at the break. Her first came in the ninth minute on a crossing pass from the right off the stick of Dani Edwards (Milford/Delaware Valley) as IUP took a 1-0 lead.

The next two IUP goals came just 2:15 apart. The first came off the stick of Ashley Mosner (Newton, NJ/Newton), who collected a shot off the post and drove it past Knights' goalie Alex Moro at the 25:27 mark. Bruce made it a 3-0 Crimson Hawks' lead when her shot from head on trickled in past Moro at 27:42.

Edwards gave IUP a 4-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the second half when a pass by Jillian Duld (Allentown/Parkland) from the right goal line found Edwards right in front of the cage.

Bellarmine got on the board in the 55th minute before Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) drilled one from 20 yards out six minutes later to give IUP a 5-1 lead. The Knights added a late goal off a corner to make the three-goal difference.

Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) went the entire way in the cage for the Crimson Hawks, posting two saves.

Heading into the final week with a PSAC postseason berth on the line, the Crimson Hawks host East Stroudsburg on Saturday. IUP is tied for sixth in the PSAC with a 3-4 record while East Stroudsburg is fifth with a 4-3 conference mark. The top six schools advance to the PSAC tournament.
