Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season with 25-7 Win over Tiffin in South Carolina

GAFFNEY, SC – Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) netted a career-high six goals to lead nine IUP goal scorers as the Crimson Hawks opened their 2013 season with an impressive 25-7 win over Tiffin at Limestone College in South Carolina.

Zakrzewski added two assists for eight total points while Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added four goals and six assists for 10 points.

Freshman Tara Nicholas (Germantown, MD/Northwest) added five goals for the Crimson Hawks.

Also adding goals for IUP was Sarah Ward (Murrysville/Franklin Regional ), Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth), Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) and Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) with two each while Brittany Palardy and Lillienne Kane (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) both score one apiece.

Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) and Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) split time in the cage for IUP, combining for six saves in the win.

Defensively, Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) and Brenna Gallagher (Evans City/Seneca Valley) led the way with three and two caused turnovers, respectively. Hayden also caused three more turnovers.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Wednesday as they battle Queens (NC) in Charlotte.
