Eight Score in Crimson Hawks 15-7 Win over Queens

Alexa Lodovici scored three goals and assisted on three others for a total of six points. She leads the Crimson Hawks with 16 points in two games this season.

CHARLOTTE – Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) each scored three goals for IUP as the Crimson Hawks defeated Queens 15-7 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon in North Carolina.

The Crimson Hawks have started the season with their second straight win while Queens falls to 5-6.

Lodovici added three assists to her point total as eight different Crimson Hawks threaded the net during the game.

Queens got on the board first at the 28:46 mark but Zakrzewski quickly tied it, leading a 3-1 IUP run as the Crimson Hawks took a 3-2 lead.

After another Queens goal knotted the game at 3-3, the Crimson Hawks rattled off three straight goals to go on top 6-3 before heading into the locker room with a 6-4 lead.

The Crimson Hawks came out in the second half looking to extend the lead with three straight goals, including two off the stick of Tara Nicholas (Germantown, MD/Northwest). Queens tried to get back in the game by scoring three of the next five goals but IUP finished things off by scoring four times in the last eight minutes to secure the eight-goal win.

Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) started in the net for the Crimson Hawks, playing the first half and recorded two saves. Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) entered in relief in the second half, also collecting a pair of saves.

In addition to Nicholas' two goals, Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) and Brittany Palardy also found the net twice. Sarah Ward (Murrysville/Franklin Regional ), Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth) and Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) all scored once for IUP.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Friday when they battle Lenoir-Rhyne at 4:00 p.m.
