Box Score

INDIANA, PA – Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored seven goals and Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) had nine saves in goal to help IUP to an 18-10 victory over Gannon in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at Miller Stadium.

The victory on Senior Day was also the first ever in program history over Gannon, which had won each of the previous 15 meetings.

Lodovici's seven goals were a career-high while also adding three assists on the day for a total of 10 points. Sterling played the entire game in the net for IUP, facing a season-high 21 shots from the Golden Knights.

With the win the Crimson Hawks wrap up the regular season with a 12-2 overall record and earned the third seed in next week's PSAC tournament with a 9-2 conference record. Gannon falls to 10-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference. The Golden Knights have earned the sixth seed in the PSAC tournament.

Gannon took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the game before the Crimson Hawks reeled off three straight goals over a four minute span to take a 4-2 lead. The Golden Knights evened the score just three minutes later but another IUP run, this time four consecutive goals, put the Crimson Hawks on top as they went into the half with an 8-5 lead.

Lodovici did most of her damage in the second half, including two of IUP's first five goals as the Crimson Hawks took a 13-6 lead. Gannon did score three of the next four goals to narrow the gap to five, but Lodovici went on a scoring binge, netting three goals in 4:36 to help extend IUP's lead to 18-9 before wrapping up the eight-goal victory.

Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) each added three goals apiece for the Crimson Hawks while Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) had two.

Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth) snagged seven draw controls and Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) had six. Paige Beierschmitt (Eastampton Township, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) led the way defensively for IUP with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.

The two teams will play again next Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the PSAC tournament. The opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
