Colleen Berlin’s Six Goals Light Up Miller Stadium as IUP Defeats Slippery Rock 20-3

INDIANA, PA - Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) tied a season-high with six goals and the Crimson Hawks wasted no time in showing who was in control as the undefeated IUP women's lacrosse team defeated Slippery Rock 20-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Tuesday night.
 
The win was their ninth consecutive to start the season which breaks the school record of eight set during the 2012 season.
 
Berlin added an assist to her six goals and led the Crimson Hawks with seven points. Six IUP players scored between the pipes with multiple-goals from Sarah Ward (Murrysville/Franklin Regional ), Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), Tara Nicholas (Germantown, MD/Northwest), Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) and Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth).
 
Not only was IUP's offense electric, the defense was also strong as the Crimson Hawks outshot The Rock 35-12, including 29-11 with shots on goal.
 
Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) and Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) once again spilt time in between the net, combining for eight saves while Hipp was credited with the win.
 
IUP scored the first three goals of the game before Kaytlin Callaghan scored Slippery Rock's only goal of the half. The Hawks would go on to score 11 consecutive goals to take a 14-1 lead into the break. 
 
Berlin scored the opening three goals of the second half with two assists coming from Lodovici, who notched four goals and those two assists on the night.
 
Along with her four goals, Ward collected five groundballs and Brenna Gallagher (Evans City/Seneca Valley) and Berlin led the team in caused turnovers with two apiece.
 
The Crimson Hawks, now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in PSAC play, head north this weekend as they look to remain undefeated at Mercyhurst on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
