No. 6 Field Hockey Falls in First PSAC Battle

INDIANA, PA – The sixth-ranked Crimson Hawks were held off the score sheet in their home opener, falling to Seton Hill 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field hockey battle Tuesday evening.

Through 34 minutes of play, both teams were unable to score, registering six shots total. At the 34:01 minute mark, Seton Hill's Lauren Mariano scored on a penalty shot to open up the scoring and give the Griffins the 1-0 lead.

Ashley Reid got things going for Seton Hill in the second half scoring from the left wing off a corner at the 39:13 minute mark. The Griffins would add one more goal at the 50:15 mark when Alisha Bell scored during a scramble in front of the cage.

Although the Crimson Hawks could not put one behind Seton Hill's goalie Autumn Reid, they outshot the Griffin's 10-7, led by defenseman Melanie Simmons (Harrison City/Penn Trafford) who posted four. Dani Edwards (Milford/Delaware Valley) had two shots, followed by Keira Huntsman (Elverson/Kimberton Waldorf), Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley), Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Jessica Kida who each registered one.

For the Griffins, Reid made five saves in her shutout effort. On the opposing end, IUP goalie Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) made three saves and allowed three goals.

With the loss, the Crimson Hawks fall to 1-2 (0-1 PSAC) on the season. They will host West Chester Saturday at 11 a.m. at George P. Miller Stadium.
