Cross Country Shows Well at Michigan State’s Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, MI – Rachel Magliane (Danville, Pa. /Danville) finished ninth and Samantha Thompson (DuBois/DuBois) came in 12th in the women's race as the IUP cross country teams competed at Michigan State's Spartan Invitational on Friday.

Magliane crossed the finish line in a time of 21:56, just five seconds back of the eighth place finisher and 37 seconds off the overall lead.

Thompson wasn't too far behind, posting a time of 22:06 on the 6K course.

The women had four runners in the top 53 overall in a race that featured 257 total runners. Steph Beaudette (Johnston, RI/Saint Mary Academy Bay View) was IUP's third finisher, coming in 32nd place with a time of 22:48. Katie Koenig (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) was 53rd with a time of 23:11.

Ray Ofman (Armagh, Pa. /United) was IUP's top finisher on the men's side, finishing 50th overall with a time of 25:55 on the 8K course.

Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) crossed the finish line not too far behind in 62nd place with a time of 26:15 while Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) crossed with a time of 27:14, good for 134rd. The men's race featured 286 total runners.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action next weekend when they host the IUP Alumni Meet on South Campus on Saturday. Race time is set for noon.
