Women Finish First, Men Second at SHU Griffin Classic

GREENSBURG, PA – Samantha Thompson (DuBois/DuBois) and Clinton Keller (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser) each picked up individual victories to for the Crimson Hawks as the IUP women's and men's cross country teams competed at Seton Hill's Griffin Classic on Saturday.

The women finished first overall while the men came in with a second place finish.

Thompson finished with a time of 19:39 on the 5K course, winning by a wide margin of 17 seconds. Steph Beaudette (Johnston, RI/Saint Mary Academy Bay View) and Katie Koenig (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) made it three Crimson Hawks in the top 10 with third and sixth place finishes, respectively.

Beaudette posted a time of 20:13 while Koenig wasn't far behind with a time of 20:46.

Lauren Lyons (Indiana/Indiana) finished just outside with top 10 with a time of 21:17 to come in 11th. Katie Barrett (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) was 15th with a time of 21:31, while Kayla Edwards (Etter/Redland) finished in 18th with a time of 21:38 and Yelena Share (Milton, Pa. /Milton) came in 20th with a time of 21:41.

On the men's side, IUP had four runners finish in the top 20, including Keller who also crossed the line 17 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Keller posted a time of 28:50 on the 8K course.

Tim Lynch (Harleysville, Pa. /Souderton) finished just outside the top 10 with an 11th place finish at 30:38. Dalton Trump (Lancaster, Pa. /J.P. McCaskey) finished just behind him in 12th with a time of 30:49.

Also finishing in the top 20 was Tony Brinkley (Catasauqua/Catasauqua), who came in 18th place with a time of 31:59.

Both Crimson Hawks teams are back in action next Friday when they travel to compete in Michigan State's Spartan Invitational.
