Women’s Tennis Wraps up Finals Day at Towson’s Tiger Classic

TOWSON, MD – Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) was a part of victories in both singles and doubles on Sunday as the IUP women's tennis team finished up play at Towson University's Tiger Classic.

Timko went three sets with Towson's Lorena Ferrer in singles play, picking up a 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 win. She also teamed with Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) for an 8-6 win over Leah Pascarella and Stephanie Wei of George Washington.

Also picking up a Sunday victory was the doubles team of Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ), defeating Egle Jakuciunaite and Taylor Nederlander of George Washington 8-2.

Also seeing action on Sunday in singles play were McCormick, McFail and Roxana Viviana Yeh (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Cangallo Schule). McCormick dropped her match 6-3, 6-2, McFail fell 6-1, 6-0 and Yeh lost 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) played in a pair of matches. They dropped the first to a team from George Washington 8-1 and their second to a team from Towson 8-6.

The Crimson Hawks return to the courts next weekend at the PSAC individual championships in Bloomsburg.
