Men’s Track & Field Has Eight Qualifiers at Division II Challenge

GENEVA, OH – Eight IUP men's track & field athletes earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks as the Crimson Hawks competed at the SPIRE Division II Indoor Challenge on Saturday.

Four of those marks came in distance events, including the mile and 5000 meter runs. Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) finished third overall in the mile with a time of 4:20.15. Andrew Morgan (Ulysses, Pa. /Northern Potter) set a personal best in the mile with a time of 4:22.68.

Nick Patton (Canton/Canton) also picked up a third place finish for the Crimson Hawks, finishing the 5000 with a 15:07.71. Matt Rutt (Sinking Spring/Wilson) had the other PSAC qualifying time in the race, coming in with a time of 15:23.60.

Joe Lynch (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Troy Zangaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills) improved their PSAC qualifying times in their respective races. Lynch finished with a time of 1:56.21 in the 800 meter run, which was also good for first overall. Zangaro finished the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.54. 

Also hitting qualifying marks for the Crimson Hawks were Jeffery Robinson and Michael Turner (Philadelphia/Carver). Robinson ran a 7.18 in the prelims of the 60 meter dash while Turner had a 14.40 meter toss in the shot put.

The Crimson Hawks will run in one final meet prior to the conference championships as they compete in the Ken State Tune-Up on Feb. 22.
