Box Score INDIANA, PA – 10 Crimson Hawks scored as the seventh-ranked IUP women's lacrosse team defeated Shippensburg 24-6 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Friday afternoon at Miller Stadium.
Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) led the way for the Crimson Hawks, scoring give goals and assisting on two others. The sophomore has run her goal total to 51 for the year, four shy of tying the program record of 55 goals, which was set just year by
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional).
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) had a career-high seven points with three goals and four assists while
Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley) scored three goals and
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) assisted on five.
It was a much-needed victory for the Crimson Hawks, who had lost their first conference to Mercyhurst on Tuesday. IUP, Mercyhurst and Lock Haven each headed into this weekend's action with just one PSAC loss apiece.
After an early Shippensburg goal, IUP rattled off eight straight to take an 8-1 lead just over 14 minutes in. The Crimson Hawks went on top by 10 at 12-2 to get the continuous running clock, scoring six of the final seven goals in the half to take a 14-3 lead into the break.
IUP held a 20-9 shot advantage going into the locker room while also forcing the Raiders into 13 turnovers in the game's first 30 minutes.
With the clock still continuously running in the second half, IUP scored its 20
th goal by the 14:45 mark and outscored the Raiders 11-3 en route to the 19-point blowout win.
Katie Davis (Owings Mills, MD/Mercy) and
Sarah Knotts (Mount Airy, MD/Linganore) split time in the net for the Crimson Hawks, playing the first and second halves, respectively. They combined for nine saves, including a season-high of five by Knotts.

Edwards and Hayden each had three of IUP's 13 caused turnovers, while
Kiera Huntsman (Elverson/Kimberton) and Smith both had two. Smith also had a season-high six ground balls and Hayden added four.
Hayden will have a few more chances in the regular season for the record, starting tomorrow when the Crimson Hawks host West Chester (9-4, 6-4). IUP will play in its regular season finale next Wednesday at home against Bloomsburg (8-5, 6-3).
