LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sprints dominated for the Crimson Hawks as seven conference qualifiers came as IUP competed in the second day of Bucknell University's Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday.
Five of those seven Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifiers came from the sprints, including four on the women's side.
Two of those were in the 400 meter hurdles, including
Jada Wilson (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) who just missed an NCAA provisional time by crossing the line in 1:03.90, good for 10th overall.
Lizzy Cunningham (Hastings, Pa. /Northern Cambria) wasn't far behind Wilson, finishing with a time of 1:04.82.
Another hurdler,
Kiah Walton (Burlington, N.J./Burlington) finished with a PSAC qualifying time in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.61, 20th overall.
Carly Petney (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) was the fourth IUP women's athlete to earn a PSAC qualifying time on Sunday, finishing 12th overall in the 100 meters with a time of 12.64.
One men's sprinter earned a PSAC qualifying mark as
Troy Zangaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills) finished the 400 meters with a time of 49.94. The men also had
Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa. /Upper Merion) and
Ray Ofman (Armagh, Pa. /United) earn qualifying marks – Cooper ran a 1:53.22 in the 800 meter and Ofman finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:50.58. It was Cooper's second qualifying mark of the weekend, also hitting it in the 1500 meters on Saturday.
Both IUP teams are back in action next weekend when they compete in Slippery Rock's Dave Labor Invitational on Saturday.
