Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del./Salesianum) and
Rachel Magliane (Danville, Pa. /Danville) helped the IUP men's and women's track & field teams open up the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships with points in the 10,000 meters on Thursday night.
Both runners finished seventh in their respective races as Hampel finished with a time of 31:55.78 on the men's side and Magliane crossed the line with a time of 37:41.61 in the women's race. With their seventh place finishes, they both earned two points.
Along with Hampel in the men's race,
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken ) finished in 10th place with a time of 32:48.15. The men's race was won with a time of 31:31.00, with Lock Haven boasting the top three spots while runners from Shippensburg finished fourth and fifth.
The women's race was won by a freshman from Bloomsburg with a time of 37:02.19. Seven different schools featured runners in the top eight.
After the first day of competition, the men sit fourth in the standings while the women are sixth. Lock Haven leads the men's rankings and Edinboro is first for the women.
Day two of the PSAC Championships picks up for the Crimson Hawks at 12 p.m. on Friday with the men's long jump and women's high jump.
