Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa. /Upper Merion) took home second in the 800 meters while IUP athletes qualified six times for the finals as the Crimson Hawks competed on the second day of the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
Cooper's 800 time of 1:53.05 finished just 0.17 off the pace as he pulled in eight points for the men on Friday.
Troy Zangaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills) moved to the finals of the 400 meters when he finished fourth in the prelims with a time of 48.78. The men's 4x100 relay team of
Judah Klein (Philadelphia, Pa. /Cheltenham), Zangaro,
Jalen Coriano-Nix (Cheltenham, Pa. /Cheltenham) and
Demetrius Timmons (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) also qualified for the finals by racing to a time of 42.32, good for sixth place in the prelims.
The men wrap up day two in a tie for seventh place of 10 teams that have scored so far with 10 points. Shippensburg holds the overall lead with 91 points while Slippery Rock is second with 40 and Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg are tied with 38. West Chester has 23 points and Kutztown has 16 while Edinboro also has 10, California (Pa.) has four and Seton Hill has three.
On the women's side,
Jada Wilson (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and
Lizzy Cunningham (Hastings, Pa. /Northern Cambria) both qualified for the finals of the 400 meter hurdles with time of 1:04.16 and 1:04.48, respectively. Wilson finished fifth in the prelims and Cunningham was seventh.
Carly Petney (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) qualified in the 100 meters as she finished sixth with a time of 12.43. She also ran the second leg of the women's 4x100 relay team that finished seventh with a time of 48.41, qualifying for the finals. Joining her were
Emily Dubler (Johnsonburg, Pa. /Johnsonburg), Wilson and
Kiah Walton (Burlington, N.J./Burlington).
The women enter Saturday in 15th place with 2.5 points. Shippensburg leads with 69 while Slippery Rock is second with 56 and Millersville is third with 33. Also scoring points has been Edinboro (32), Bloomsburg (31), Kutztown and East Stroudsburg (24), Seton Hill (19), West Chester (18), Cal (16), Cheyney (10), Lock Haven (eight), Mansfield (4.5) and Clarion (four).
The final day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships gets underway at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. later in the day.
