Austin Cooper’s 1500 Title Highlights Final Day of PSAC Outdoor Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa. /Upper Merion) took home the individual title in the 1500 meters as the IUP men's track & field team competed on the final day of the 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
 
Cooper followed up his second place finish in the 800 meters on Friday with his championship in the 1500 on Saturday, finishing with a time of 3:55.45. The true freshman finished with 18 individual points on the weekend, helping the men to an eighth place finish out of 14 teams with 45 total points.
 
Another individual scorer in the track events was Troy Zangaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Hills), who finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.60. Zangaro was also part of two relay teams on Saturday, joining Jeremy Claypoole (Bellwood, Pa. /Bellwood-Antis), Jalen Coriano-Nix (Cheltenham, Pa. /Cheltenham), and Demetrius Timmons (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) on the fifth place 4x100 team as they finished with a time of 42.04. He also ran leadoff on the 4x400 team of Coriano-Nix, Dylan Ruefle (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), and Timmons as they finished seventh with a time of 3:20.91.
 
The 4x800 relay team, which was anchored by Cooper and also featured Ruefle, Andrew Morgan (Ulysses, Pa. /Northern Potter) and Dalton Trump (Lancaster, Pa. /J.P. McCaskey), finished fifth with a time of 7:50.17.
 
IUP's top scorer in the field events was Charles Wilson-Adams (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone), who finished third in the high jump with a height of 2.05 meters. Claypoole came in fifth place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.05 meters.
 
Shippensburg won the men's title with 244 points while Slippery Rock came in second with 134. East Stroudsburg was third with 117, Lock Haven fourth with 82 and Kutztown fifth with 62. Also scoring was West Chester (50), California (Pa.) (46), Edinboro (33), Cheyney (17), Bloomsburg (nine), Pitt-Johnstown (seven), Seton Hill (six) and Mansfield (three).
