Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) scored three goals and senior
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) dished out five assists as the Crimson Hawks evened their record with a 12-5 win over the University of Tampa Friday afternoon.
With the win, IUP got back to the .500 mark with its second win of the season. The Crimson Hawks split their four-game spring break trip to Florida.
Greco scored in both half, as the Crimson Hawks took a 5-2 lead into halftime. Freshman
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored twice in the match, giving her a team-high 10 goals on the season.
Burrows got IUP on the board early with a strike at the 20:17 mark off an assist from Weinberg. Weinberg then found freshman
Katie Martyn (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) about five minutes later to double IUP's lead to 2-0.
Greco scored twice in the first half and added an assist to
Tara Nicholas (Germantown, Md./Northwest) on IUP's final goal of the half. Greco then scored unassisted just over a minute into the second half to put IUP up, 6-2.
Tampa never got the deficit closer than four goals, as Burrows, Nicholas, Martyn,
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley),
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) and
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) all added second-half goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) saved 10 of 15 shots faced in all 60 minutes in net.
IUP outshot Tampa, 30-25.
The Crimson Hawks return to action Sunday at home vs. No. 3 Lindenwood. Play is set for a 1 p.m. start at George P. Miller Stadium.
