PHILADELPHIA – A handful of Crimson Hawks competed Thursday at the 2016 Penn Relays at Franklin Field, including a group of men's 5000 meter runners who hit conference qualifying times in the event.
Running with mostly current and former Division I athletes,
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken), Huston Baumann and
Alex Hampel (Middletown, Del./Salesianum) ran PSAC qualifying times in the 5000 meters late on Thursday night. Beaudette and Baumann both ran career-best times of 14:56.83 and 15:02.01, while Hampel crossed the line with a time of 15:08.76.
The IUP women had their 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams compete in the afternoon. The 4x1 team of
Zhane Valmon (Manchester, N.J./Manchester ),
Carly Petney (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria), As-Sata Hall, and
Kiah Walton (Burlington, N.J./Burlington) finished in 48.89 while
Heather Sternby (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), Valmon,
Christina Roberson (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Penn Hills), and Walton ran the 4x4 in a time of 4:13.88.
IUP has athletes competing all three days at the Penn Relays, which run through Saturday.
