SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Junior
RJ Hammond won three individual events, and three other IUP men each had three combined victories as the Crimson Hawks swimming teams opened their 2017-18 season with a dual match at Shippensburg on Wednesday evening.
The IUP men won 150.5-104.5 but the Shippensburg women edged the Crimson Hawks by a score of 133-129.
COMPLETE RESULTS
Hammond won the 100 yard freestyle, and the 50 and 100 yard butterfly in his season debut as the IUP men finished with 10 individual victories and a relay win.
Joining Hammond in the win column were juniors
Noah Brockway and
Colter Long, and senior
Shane Hallett. Brockway won the 50 and 100 yard backstroke, and swam the lead leg in the 200 yard medley relay. Hallett swam the second leg in that relay, also winning the 50 and 100 yard breaststroke, while Long swam the third leg of the relay, 50 free, and 200 IM.
Freshman
Lucas Bellier also won the 500 free in his collegiate debut.
For the IUP women,
Nicole Smith opened her junior season with first place finishes in the 100 and 200 free, and a second place finish in the 50 free. She also swam the anchor leg of the second place 200 medley relay.
Fellow junior
Regan Chalk won the 50 fly and added second place finishes in the 50 back and 200 IM. She also preceded Smith in the 200 medley relay.
Other individual winners for the women included junior
Bria Otwell in the 500 free, freshman
Sarah Helton in the 50 breast, and freshman
Jessica Cochran in the 100 fly.

The Crimson Hawks are off for two-and-a-half weeks and return to action on Saturday, October 21 with a dual meet at Edinboro.
