Austin Cooper earns second career PSAC Top 10 honor

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — IUP track & field student-athlete Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's (PSAC) Winter Top 10 team, which was announced Thursday afternoon.

Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The Top 10 Award is selected by the conference's sports information directors and given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring.

Cooper is a senior regional planning and economics dual major, boasting a 3.89 cumulative GPA. This is his second career PSAC Top 10 honor; he received his first honor in spring 2017.

The mid-distance runner had the second fastest mile time in the Atlantic Region of 4:15.60, earning him a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region honor. During the PSAC Championships, Cooper finished second in the mile and ran the lead leg of the IUP record breaking 4x800 relay with a time of 7:51.41. IUP's 4x800 relay was also the second fastest team in the region.

Cooper has 13 combined All-Region honors in cross country and indoor/outdoor track & field. He has earned four individual PSAC Championship titles, three All-PSAC honors and is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

IUP is tied for fourth with East Stroudsburg in PSAC history with 54 all-time top 10 winners. Shippensburg University leads with 65 all-time winners with Slippery Rock (61) in second and Clarion (57) in third.
