Newly ranked No. 10 Hawks hit the road for two games

INDIANA, Pa. – The 10th-ranked IUP field hockey team has two road games on tap this week. The Crimson Hawks will play at Mansfield on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and at No. 5 East Stroudsburg Saturday at 1 p.m. 

Winners of its last two games, IUP enters the week with an 8-2 overall record and currently tied for fourth in the PSAC standings with a 3-2 league record. Mansfield is 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Warriors are 10-3 overall and tied for second at 4-1.

>> IUP makes its 2021 debut in the national rankings at No. 10 this week. The Hawks earned a No. 10 ranking in 2019 after starting 3-0 and beating No. 9 Bloomsburg.
>> The Hawks are 14-6 against Mansfield since 2010, including an 8-game win streak. The Mounties have won four of the last five dating back to 2017.
>> IUP has dropped eight straight games to East Stroudsburg since 2014, including five straight shutouts.
>> Hawks goalie Amanda Zaner posted two shutouts last week and lowered her goals against average to 1.341, fifth in the PSAC. 
>> The defensive-minded Hawks have allowed just 13 goals in 10 games. Their 1.30 team GAA is fourth lowest in the league.
>> Georgiana Chiavacci brought her assist total to seven on the year, which is tied for the league lead. It's also the most assists by an IUP player since Nicole Bruce had 10 in 2012.
