IUP Women’s Lacrosse earns PSAC GPA award for second straight year

INDIANA, Pa. – For the second straight year, the IUP women's lacrosse program earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Team GPA Award, posting the top average in its sport for the 2020-21 academic year.

Under the direction of third year head coach Brenna Gallagher, the Crimson Hawks posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.668 during the fall and spring semesters. It was an improvement over last year's top grade point average of 3.655. West Chester again was the runner-up with a 3.664 GPA while Mercyhurst was third at 3.564.

Women's lacrosse is joined by the IUP men's golf program, which also won the PSAC Team GPA Award for it's sport. These mark the 11th and 12th team GPA awards for IUP since the creation of the program in 2011-12.

A total of 24 women's lacrosse student-athletes landed on the PSAC Scholar-Athletes list, posting a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25. Twelve of those posted perfect 4.0 GPAs during the spring semester, including Chloe Borland, Abigail Cermak, Maura Columbus, Leah Hunter, Victoria Kerkovich, Kelly Macnamara, Carly Mansur, Maggie Marsteller, Gianna Piocquidio, Claire Richardson, Sami Shutt and Kayte Zeiler

They helped IUP accumulate a 3.89 team grade point average in the spring.

PSAC academic awards
The awards, released at the end of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 23 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
