CLARION, Pa. – IUP swimming & diving closed out the fall semester with a dual meet split against Clarion on Saturday at Tippin Natatorium. The women's squad earned a 124-118 victory, while the men's team fell short by a 128-112 count.
Saturday marked the second consecutive weekend of dual meets in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. IUP pushes its dual record to 6-0 on the women's side, with the men falling to 4-2 with a narrow setback.
The Crimson Hawks recorded 23 total PSAC standards and added five pool records on Saturday.
"Clarion is a great competitor and swam us tough at their home pool on senior day," IUP head coach
Chris Villa said. "Our student-athletes have done a great job so far this year and we finished first semester strong."
IUP collectively placed first in 15 of 26 events on the day. Both 200 medley relay squads posted first-place pool record times to begin the meet.
Jordan Crupie,
Rachel Johnson,
Paige Mikesell and
Amber Baldani guided the women's 200 medley relay to a pool record of 1:48.09. Meanwhile, the men's squad of
Alexander Roth,
Athanasios Diamantidis,
Ryan Hartmann and
Thomas McGillan followed suit with a pool record of 1:34.96.
IUP continued its success with
Kiera-Veronica Scudder holding on for a win in the 1,000 free (11:30.29). Mikesell notched two wins individually, touching the wall first in the 200 free (1:55.45) and the 100 fly (58.04), both pool records. For the men, McGillan also won a pir of individual races and anchored the 200 medley relay, zipping to first in the 50 free (21.09) and following it up with a win in the 100 free (47.16).
Johnson picked up two wins individually for the Crimson Hawk women's team, including a pool record in the 100 breast (1:05.09) and first in the 100 IM (1:01.18). IUP showcase some of their depth by claiming first, second and third in the women's 100 breast as
Erin Moyer and
Kyla Kramer followed behind Johnson.
Diamantidis won the 100 breast handily in 58.39, also nabbing first as part of the 200 medley relay and second in the 200 free relay.
Luke Mikesell recorded a first and second-place finish against the Golden Eagles, breezing to a victory in the 500 free in 4:49.88, also notching second in the 200 free. Hartmann added a victory in the 100 IM with a time of 53.88.
Baldani and Crupie each added victories for the IUP women. Baldani won the 100 free, notching second in the 50 free, while Crupie won the 100 back just ahead of teammate
Parker Fanella.
