ERIE, Pa. – The IUP swimming & diving teams split a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet at Gannon on Saturday afternoon in Erie. The women's team posted a 154-139 victory, while the men's squad dropped a 169-117 decision to the Golden Knights.
IUP posted a combined 24 PSAC standards, one NCAA B cut and set four total pool records. Six different Hawks picked up two individual victories on the afternoon, while 11 had at least one individual first-place finish.
"This time of year is one of the toughest for our group, coming off a multi-day meet Magnus, the Thanksgiving break and the academic stresses that occur the last two weeks of the semester," IUP had coach
Chris Villa said. "Overall, we're pleased with where we are, how we responded and what that means moving forward."
The women's team pushed its overall record to 5-0 and 3-0 in the league with Saturday's dual win. The men are now 4-1 and 2-1 in PSAC competition.
Thomas McGillan set an NCAA B standard in the 50 free (20.60) with a new pool record. For the women,
Paige Mikesell set a pool record in the 100 fly (56.78) and
Rachel Johnson followed suit in the 100 breast (1.04.92).
The first-place 200 medley relay group of
Jordan Crupie, Johnson, Mikesell and
Amber Baldani set a pool record with a 1:47.41. That relay group excelled on Saturday or the Hawks, posting eight total individual victories.
Baldani notched two first-place finishes for the Hawks, coming in the 50 free (24.89) and 100 free (54.14), both PSAC standards. Crupie added victories in the 100 back with a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:01.68 and the 50 back in 27.95.
Johnson touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:58.10) and the pool-record 100 breast, both PSAC standards. Meanwhile, Mikesell cruised to a win in the 100 fly (56.78) and paced the field in the 50 fly (26.39).
For the men,
Athanasios Diamantidis and
Nicholas Roddy each logged a pair of individual triumphs. Diamantidis continued her stellar season with first-place finishes in the 50 breast in 26.08 and 100 breast in 58.22.
Ryan Hartmann won the 50 fly (23.19), adding a pair of individual third-place finishes on the afternoon.
Allison Brownlee won the one-meter diving event behind a finals score of 245.63.
Erin Moyer held on for a win in the 50 breast, notching first in 31.07.
Luke Mikesell, McGillan and
Alexander Roth each posted a first and second for the Hawks on the men's side.
