Branan wins 800 meters, sets records on final day of PSAC Indoor Championships

EDINBORO, Pa. - Sophomore Kendall Branan won the men's 800 meter title as the IUP track & field teams wrapped up their weekend at the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championships Sunday at Edinboro University. 

Branan cruised to a time of 1:52.59, setting the PSAC championship meet and Mike Zafirovski Dome facility records in the process. It bettered his previous career-best by 1.66 seconds and hit a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the process. Branan finished 1.25 seconds faster than second place Drew Dailey of Shippensburg. 

He highlighted four IUP men who scored Sunday. Evan Weaver posted a pair of fifth place finishes - the mile and the 3000 meters. His mile time came in at 4:25.13 while he posted a personal-best in the 3000m with a time of 8:48.38. Marco Cardone finished right behind Weaver in the 3000m, finishing sixth with a personal-best time of 8:48.81. Also scoring was Addison Singleton, who ran to an eighth place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.83 seconds. 

The IUP women were led Sunday by field athletes with three scoring in the top eight. Rachel Horrell hit a new PR in the triple jump with a leap of 11.03 meters to finish fifth overall. Hailey Dodson tallied a sixth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.91 meters and Amanda Gwinn came in eighth in the high jump by clearing 1.54 meters. 

On the track for the women, Paige Wess finished fifth in the 800 meters with a new PR of 2:21.56. She then helped the 4x400 relay team finish seventh overall with a time of 4:06.92. Also competing with Wess on the relay were Cahsia Page, Tori James and Cassidy Kline.

Team standings
The men finished 10th out of 12 teams with 26 points. Shippensburg won the men's title with 210 points with Slippery Rock a distant second at 90 points. 

The IUP women were 13th out of 15 teams by scoring 14 points. Edinboro won the women's championship with 96 points.
