Hawks earn seventh straight NCAA tournament bid

INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's basketball program earned the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic Region as the field of 64 for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship was announced Sunday night.

This is the seventh straight NCAA tournament selection for the Crimson Hawks, who are coming off Atlantic Region titles in 2018 and 2019, and a No. 1 seed in 2020. 

First round games will be played Friday, March 11 with the semifinals following Saturday, March 12. The regional championship will be Monday, March 14. Times are to be determined. 

The Crimson Hawks open the NCAA tournament against No. 2 seed and rival Cal U. The 3/6 first round matchup will be Kutztown vs. Charleston. 

Other first round matchups include No. 1 Glenville State vs. No. 8 Lincoln and No. 4 Gannon vs. No. 5 Shepherd.

IUP will be making the program's 15th all-time NCAA tournament appearance, including its seventh straight under head coach Tom McConnell.
