IUP swimming finishes out weekend in Carlisle

CARLISLE, Pa. – The IUP swimming team and its small group of competitors finished out the weekend on Saturday in Carlisle at the Keystone Aquatics Center. The Hawks opened the day with the Pidgeon Memorial Invitational, closing out the afternoon with the PSAC Last Chance meet.
 
IUP competed with Bloomsburg and Millersville on the women's side, while the men's team went head-to-head with the Marauders on Saturday.
 
In the opening event of the day, the IUP women's team finished in third with 219 points, with the men finishing behind Millersville behind a total of 280. Later in the day, the women nabbed 272 points for third with the men scoring 279.
 
IUP logged seven event victories in the morning session, including a victory for midyear transfer Edoardo Colucci in the 200 fly (1:52.60). The time marked a PSAC qualifying mark for Colucci. Athanasios Diamantidis and Luke Mikesell added PSAC standards in the 200 IM, finishing first and second, respectively.
 
Amber Baldani had a PSAC qualifying standard in the 100 fly, nabbing first in 1:00.65. Parker Fanella followed in second with a PSAC qualifying standard of her own in 1:00.92. Rachel Johnson qualified for the PSAC Championships with her first-place time of 5:23.02 in the 500 free, while Adam Morrison followed suit for the men with his winning time of 4:56.55.
 
Paige Mikesell earned a win in the 200 free (2:05.20) in the opening session of the day.
 
Later in the day, IUP combined for seven more victories, with Mikesell and Colucci accounting for two each. Colucci continued his strong showing on Saturday with wins in the 400 IM (4:03.15; PSAC), coming close to an NCAA B Cut, before a first-place finish in the 200 breast (1:54.85; PSAC).
 
Meanwhile, Mikesell added two more PSAC standards in the 100 fly (57.21) and 100 free (53.10). Erin Moyer won the 400 IM with a 4:46.22 with Rachel Johnson posting a first in the 200 breast (2:22.90; PSAC) and second in the 200 free (2:00.64; PSAC).
 
Thomas McGillan touched the wall first in the competitive 200 breast in 1:45.75.  
 
Up Next
IUP sends members of the diving team to Clarion on February 3, while the team holds its intersquad Senior Recognition Meet on Saturday, February 4.
