CARLISLE, Pa. – The IUP swimming team finished out two sessions at the Keystone Aquatics Center on Friday, closing out a busy season-opening week of competition for the Crimson Hawks.
In total, IUP posted 27 total PSAC standards across the two sessions. IUP's finished fourth of six teams at the PSAC Fall Invitational and third in the later session at the Fall Sprint Frenzy. The IUP men were second at the PSAC Fall Invitational and third in the second session of the day.
"It was a successful first week of competition with an abundance of promising signs looking ahead to the rest of the season," IUP swimming & diving assistant
Adam Stoner said. "We believe that these few days of back-to-back racing will set our student-athletes up for continued success in some of the bigger meets to follow."
Looking to provide opportunities throughout the lineup, IUP had a strong showing across both teams on Friday. Both the IUP men and women posted a top-three finish in 14 events each.
Athanasios Diamantidis recorded three wins on the day, coming in the 50 breast (26.83) and 100 breast, also joining the 400 free relay to a first-place finish (3:12.57). Diamantidis swam the third leg of the relay, joining
Andrew Taylor,
Blake Hendricks and Luke Scobria for first.
It was part of a successful day across the relay races for IUP. The men's 4x100 IM grouping of
Luke Mikesell, Joey Pieklo,
Alexander Roth and Scoboria cruised to first in 3:41.14. The women's 3x100 back relay group of
Amber Baldani, Lillian Farner and
Kasha Stokes took first comfortably in 3:00.09.
Tyler Uhlig continued his strong start to the season with a first-place finish in the 100 back in 52.75.
Stokes led off the victorious 400 medlay relay team, joining
Tina Cudina,
Emma McCombs and
Summer Esson for first in 4:01.66. Cudina capped a solid day with a win in the 50 breast (30.10) and second in the 100 free (54.21).
Avital Flaishman and Esson posted victories in the 100 free and 100 breast, respectively.
