Hawks continue racking up strong swims on day two of 2023 PSAC Championships

YORK, Pa. – IUP swimming maintained their positioning in the team standings upon the conclusion of day two at the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, held at the Graham Aquatic Center.
 
The women's squad finishes day two of action in second place in the team standings with 461 points, while the men are fifth with 185 points. The Hawks added five more NCAA B Cut marks and three school records to their tally, posting multiple second-place finishes while showcasing the team's depth.

Overall, IUP logged 23 season-best times on Thursday and both 400 medley relay teams closed out the fourth session of the championships with a school record. 

"The team is feeling good halfway through the meet with a lot of great swims throughout the day," IUP head coach Chris Villa said. "The relays were a ton of fun and the whole team really got behind their teammates." 

Rachel Johnson recorded second in the prelims and finals of the women's 400 IM, continuing her strong start to the conference championships behind an NCAA B Cut time of 4:28.78.
 
Erin Moyer was second overall in the B Final of the women's 400 IM (4:37.26), finishing just behind Edinboro's Lara De Carne. Olivia Santee was second in the same event as part of the C Final, touching the wall in 4:47.70, while Kyla Kramer posted fourth in the same heat.
 
Paige Mikesell notched second overall in the women's 100 fly in both the prelims and finals, posting an NCAA B Cut mark of 54.68 in the evening session of the event. Emma McCombs picked up third in the 100 fly B Final with a time of 58.36.
 
On the men's side, Ryan Hartmann provided the Hawks with points in the 100 fly, finishing sixth in the first heat of the finals with a 49.43. Luke Mikesell shaved nearly two seconds off his prelims time in the 200 free, posting third overall in the finals (1:38.86) with an NCAA B Cut.
 
The women's and men's 400 medley relay closed out the fourth session of the 2023 PSAC Swimming Championships with second-place finishes.
 
The women's grouping of Jordan Crupie, Rachel Johnson, Mikesell and Amber Baldani were second with an NCAA B Cut of 3:45.21 and will compete in the NCAA Championships in March. The men's relay squad of Alexander Roth, Athanasios Diamantidis, Ryan Hartmann and Thomas McGillan posted a 3:18.61, marking the relay's highest finish at the PSAC Championships since 2015.

Day three of the PSAC Swimming Championships commences with the prelims on Friday, February 17, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
