LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- IUP senior cross country runner Dan Gibney was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Fall Top 10 team, announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.

Initiated in the 1998-99 academic year, the PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The Top 10 Award is selected by the conference's sports information directors and given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring.

Gibney was honored with the 2024 Men's Cross Country Champion Scholar Award for his perfect 4.0 grade point average through 87 credits in pursuit of a degree in Safety, Health, & Environmental Applied Sciences. He earned All-PSAC First Team in 2024, Second Team honors in both 2022 and 2023, All-Region in 2024, and three academic awards. 

This season he marked two personal bests in the 6k and 8k, which included a first-place finish in the 6k at the WLU Invitational (18:45.2). Gibney finished second at PSAC Championships in the 8k (25:36.5) and at NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships he placed 13th in the 10k (30:43.4).

IUP and the PSAC Top 10 award
Gibney becomes the 72nd IUP student-athlete to earn PSAC Top 10 honors. The 72 total selections is third all-time behind Slippery Rock (86) and Shippensburg (80).
 
Gibney is the fifth IUP men's cross country/track and field runner to earn PSAC Top 10 honors. He joins Austin Cooper (3), Sean Strauman (1), Alex Hampel (1), and Derek Noll (1).
