MONROE, N.C. – IUP men's golf junior
Alex Swinnerton is tied atop a loaded field after 36 holes at Wingate's 25th annual Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate, held at the par-72 Rolling Hills Country Club.
IUP slots in 10th place as a team, holding their own in a quality field that features seven top-50 schools in the latest Scoreboard by Clippd rankings.
Grand Valley State leads the team standings at -14, carding an impressive eight under in round two that saw three players in the lineup finish under par. The Lakers are ranked fifth in the Scoreboard by Clippd listing released on March 12.
Swinnerton rattled off two under par rounds to begin the spring semester, carding scores of 67 and 71 on Monday.
Monday saw each team and 16 individuals complete 36 holes of action. The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes, beginning Tuesday morning. Monday's loaded day marked the return to competition for IUP for the spring 2025 semester.
Swinnerton is tied for the individual lead with South Carokina Beaufort's Erik Rengardt, while four players are one shot behind with a combined mark of five under. Swinnerton has now recorded 28 rounds of par or better in his IUP career, highlighting his day with an eagle on the par-five 13th hole in round one.
Swinnerton poured in eight birdies across 36 holes of golf, adding 25 pars in a consistent day.
John Olsen opened the day with a one-under round of 71 and sits tied for 36th ahead of Tuesday's final round. Olsen played his final nine holes of the opening round at a clip of two-under par.
Ben De Castro followed in the IUP scoring lineup with rounds of 75 and 76, currently tied for 57th individually. IUP's three individual participants carded in with combined tallies of 153 (+9), 154 (+10) and 156 (+12) from
Jon Vinge,
Trevor Todd and
Evan Lewis, respectively.
Guillermo Salazar tied for 85th with rounds of 80 (included a two-shot scorecard penalty) and 81.
Cameron Gerue closed out the Crimson Hawk lineup in a tie for 91st with rounds of 76 and 89.
