WEST CHESTER, Pa. – IUP men's golf closed the first round with a team total of 304, good for fourth overall in the 12-team field at the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational, hosted by West Chester at a chilly and windy Penn Oaks Golf Club on Monday.
Getting its first taste of action against a full field of regional competition this spring, IUP slots nine shots back of first-place Wilmington (Del.).
Alex Swinnerton is one shot back (73) from a pack of players tied for second on the individual leaderboard.
Monday's opening round did not feature a score under par at the par-71 Penn Oaks Golf Club, located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Swinnerton is tied for eighth overall with his three-over 73, which included three birdies.
John Olsen was one shot back of Swinnerton for the team lead, carding a 75 on Monday while slotting tied for 12th.
Trevor Todd recorded his sixth collegiate round of 76 or better to begin the invitational, entering round two in a tie for 18th.
Cameron Gerue, competing as an individual, carded a 78 (T29th).
Guillermo Salazar and
Ben De Castro rounded out the Crimson Hawk lineup, each recording a 79.
