FAIRVIEW, Pa. — Following consecutive tough-luck rounds, the IUP men's golf program closed its 2024-25 season with a return to form over the final 18 holes as part of the 2025 NCAA DII Atlantic/East Regional on Saturday.
 
Davis & Elkins and Charleston (W.Va.) joined hosts Gannon as the three teams to advance to the 2025 NCAA DII National Championships later this month. IUP elevated one spot in the team standing at the par-72 Whispering Woods Golf Clubs, finishing eighth overall with a more characteristic team total of 296 on Saturday.
 
The top three teams and the top two individuals not on advancing teams from each regional move on to the NCAA DII Finals, set for May 19–23 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. An additional eight team berths are based on prior-year regional representation in head-to-head medal play, with no more than seven teams per region.
 
Nolan Skaggs (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Johnny Solari (Adelphi) also earned a berth to nationals at individuals. Trying to dig out of a hole from the first two rounds, IUP had a strong collective effort across the lineup on Saturday.
 
Posting a total score of 921, IUP recorded a strong 296 in round three. Guillermo Salazar shot six spots up the leaderboard with a one-over 73, tying for 14th overall.
 
Salazar joined Alex Swinnerton with a 73 on Saturday. Swinnerton tied for 20th, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five 12th hole and a birdie on the 13th.
 
John Olsen played his front nine at one under on Saturday, closing the day with a 75. He tied for 40th overall.
 
Saturday's round concluded a record 28th consecutive regionals appearance for IUP, dating back to 1997.
