SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The IUP track and field teams battled both competition and weather at the John Papa Invitational, hosted by Slippery Rock.
The highlight came in the women's field events as Jahnaya Wimberly earned a first-place finish and recorded the fourth-best jump in the PSAC this outdoor season in the long jump. She posted a personal-best mark of 5.78 meters. Wimberly also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.23 meters, short of her PSAC-qualifying mark of 11.30 meters.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles, both Steve Combary and Zach Debose recorded PSAC-qualifying times. Combary posted the No. 17 time in the PSAC at 15.26 seconds, while Debose ranked No. 20 at 15.38 seconds and won his heat.
Ashton Botzan also recorded a PSAC-qualifying mark in the men's pole vault, clearing 4.55 meters. His mark ranks sixth in the PSAC this season, and he finished fifth in the event.
Outside of qualifying marks, three IUP athletes won their heats. Isiyah McFadden won her heat in the women's 100 meters with a time of 12.77 seconds. Giselle Yim won her 200-meter heat in 26.83 seconds, and Cailey Trosch won her 400-meter heat in 1:01.19.
