IUP Women Finish Third, Men Sixth at PSAC Cross Country Championships

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA – The IUP women finished third out of 15 schools while the men came in sixth overall out of 13 as the Crimson Hawks competed at the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground near Slippery Rock.

The women boasted four All-PSAC performances (top-20 finishes) to come in behind Edinboro for second while Shippensburg racked up another conference championship.

The men had five runners in the top 38 to finish just one point behind Shippensburg for fifth place overall. Edinboro also repeated as champions while East Stroudsburg finished second, Lock Haven third and Slippery Rock fourth.

Steph Beaudette (Johnston, RI/Saint Mary Academy Bay View) was the top IUP finisher for the women, coming in 10th overall with a time of 22:46.3 on the 6K course. Alyssa Taddie (Homer City/Homer-Center) was right on her heels, coming in 11th place with a posted time of 22:48.1.

Rachel Magliane (Danville, Pa. /Danville) and Samantha Thompson (DuBois/DuBois) also went back-to-back, crossing the line in 16th and 17th place with times of 23:13.3 and 23:16.5, respectively, to earn All-PSAC honors.

It was the first career all-conference recognition for Beaudette, Taddie, Magliane and Thompson.

Katie Koenig (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) finished in 35th with a time of 23:59.5 while Jane Looby (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) came in 53rd with a time of 24:20.8 and Yelena Share (Milton, Pa. /Milton) crossed the line in 24:54.8, good for 61st overall.

Also running for IUP was Katie Barrett (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) (24:55.6), Kayla Edwards (Etter/Redland) (25:51.6) and Jackie Beisel (Clymer/Penns Manor) (26:01.6).

On the men's side, the top team finisher was Ray Ofman (Armagh, Pa. /United), crossing the line in 26:35.3, good for 26th place. His time was less than 10 seconds away from all-conference honors.

Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) finished not too far behind in 31st place with a time of 26:47.1 while Matt Rutt (Sinking Spring/Wilson) was 33rd overall with a time of 26:52.2. The bunch of IUP runners continued with Clinton Keller (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser) crossing the line in 35th place at 26:55.6 while Josh Joson (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) was right behind in 38th with a time of 26:58.3.

Alex Kolesar finished 70th overall with a time of 28:27.2 and Corey Mitchell (Bridgeville/South Fayette) was 75th at 29:01.8.

Also competing for the Crimson Hawks was Tim Lynch (Harleysville, Pa. /Souderton), who had a 29:16.3; Kenny Thompson who finished with a 30:01.9; and Trevor Howard (Shinglehouse/Oswayo Valley) who came in with a 30:49.7.

IUP will run at Lock Haven twice in the next two weeks, first with the River Run on October 27 followed by the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships on November 3.
