LOCK HAVEN, PA – Steph Beaudette (Johnston, RI/Saint Mary Academy Bay View) came in ninth place individually to lead the IUP women to a third place overall finish at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Lock Haven. The finish guarantees IUP a trip to the Division II Championships in Joplin, Missouri in two weeks.

Consistently the third best team in the region all season, IUP didn't disappoint today as three runners finished in the top 21 overall. Beaudette crossed the line in 21:30.6 while Alyssa Taddie (Homer City/Homer-Center) came in 15th place with a 21:41.8. Samantha Thompson (DuBois/DuBois) was that 21st place finisher, coming in right behind Taddie with a 21:55.5.

Katie Koenig (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) led the next wave of Crimson Hawks with a 27th place finish in 22:06.9. Rachel Magliane (Danville, Pa. /Danville) followed in 30th with a 22:12.0 while Jane Looby (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) was 38th with a 22:27.4. With 102 points, IUP trailed Shippensburg (70 points) and Edinboro (90), which came in first and second, respectively. Kutztown was a distant fourth while Bloomsburg came in fifth. The top three finishing teams earn automatic bids to the NCAA championships.

This will be the first trip to the NCAA championships for the IUP since 2002.

On the men's side, Matt Rutt (Sinking Spring/Wilson) led the way as he finished 28th overall with a time of 32:16.7 on the 10k course.  Ray Ofman (Armagh, Pa. /United) and Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) came in right behind him in 31st and 33rd with times of 32:19.5 and 32:21.0, respectively. Clinton Keller (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser) followed in 36th place with a time of 32:30.1.
