Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored a season-high four goals and added a late assist to seal a 16-14 overtime win for the IUP women's lacrosse team at Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Tuesday.

Tied at 14-14 with just over five minutes to play in the overtime period, Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) took a pass from Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) and deposited the goal to give the Crimson Hawks a 15-14 lead. With IUP holding possession and time ticking away, Shippensburg pulled its goaltender in an attempt to force a Crimson Hawks turnover. Bianco had different plans, however, scoring an empty net goal with just :13 seconds remaining and salting away the IUP victory.

After an early goal by Bennett Widlake gave the Lady Raiders an early 1-0 lead, Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) would score back-to-back goals to give the Crimson Hawks a one-point edge with just over 22 minutes to play in the half.

Shippensburg would notch another just a minute later to knot the game at 2-2, but IUP would rip off three straight goals over the next seven minutes to take a 5-2 lead with 14 minutes left in the period. Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had two goals in the run that sandwiched a goal from Berlin.

A goal from Lindsey Kennedy would pull the Raiders to within two less than a minute later, but Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth) would answer quickly with a goal to push the lead back to three and return momentum to the Crimson Hawks.

The momentum would be short-lived, however, as Shippensburg would storm back with five consecutive goals to take an 8-6 lead with 5:00 to play in the half. Widlake had two goals in the spurt for the Lady Raiders.

Lodovici would slice the Shippensburg lead to just one with over three minutes to play with a goal, but Kennedy would find the back of the net for the Raiders with just two seconds remaining in the period to give Shippensburg a 9-7 lead at the break.

The Crimson Hawks would regroup early in the second half, however, notching three straight goals to jump back in front by one with 20 minutes to play. Berlin had two goals for IUP while Paige Corathers (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) recorded the other.

Shippensburg would answer with three goals of its own over the 10 minutes to regain the lead and hold a 12-10 advantage with 7:08 to play in the half, but IUP would have an answer. The Crimson Hawks would go on a 4-0 run over the next four minutes to nudge ahead by two thanks to goals from Berlin, Bianco, and two from Tenley Seidel (Toldeo, OH/Saint Ursula Academy).

With just over two minutes to play and IUP holding a two-goal advantage, Shippensburg would charge back. Sheila Johnson scored with 2:21 to play to pull the Lady Raiders to within one, and with just 28 seconds remaining Lauren Hauck found the back of the net to knot it up at 14-14 and send the game into overtime.

With 5:02 remaining in the extra session, Glasshagel scored the go-ahead goal to give IUP a 15-14 that they would not relinquish. With time running out and the Shippensburg goalie pulled to add an extra Raider defender, Bianco notched the empty-netter to seal the win.

Bianco had two goals and an assist for the Crimson Hawks, while Lodovici recorded three goals and two assists. Miller and Seidel both added a pair of goals for IUP. Chelsea Hipp went the distance in goal for the Crimson Hawks and notched nine saves in the win.

Widlake and Johnson both had three goals for Shippensburg, while Hauck, Kennedy and Kayla Dalzell all had two goals.

The Crimson Hawks improve to 3-1, 1-0 in the PSAC, while Shippensburg falls to 2-2, 0-1 in the conference. IUP debuts at home this Saturday when the Crimson Hawks host Millersville at George. P Miller Stadium. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
