Box Score
INDIANA, PA -
Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored five goals along with two assists and picked up eight draw controls as 14th-ranked IUP easily defeated Tiffin 22-6 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Monday at Miller Stadium.
Berlin scored her five goals on 10 shots as the Crimson Hawks controlled possession of ball from the start, out shooting Tiffin 44-14, including 27-9 in the first half.
Even though IUP (9-4) held the ball for most of the first half, it was the Dragons who got on the board first with a goal by Alexandria Quast five minutes into the game. It didn't take long for the Crimson Hawks to respond, however, as Berlin got her first goal of the game off a pass from
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) just 25 seconds later to tie the score.
That would be the beginning of a 17-0 IUP run that stretched the rest of the first half and nearly 10 minutes into the second as eight different players would thread the net for the Crimson Hawks.
Among the goals scorers was Berlin, who scored four of her five goals in game's first 32:07 while
Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) and Lillian Kane had three, and
Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and
Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) each scored two during the run. Also adding goals were
Paige Corathers (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley),
Jessica Beck (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech), and
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional).
The pace of the second slowed way down as IUP played keep away, outscoring the Dragons 7-5 during the running clock.
Adding goals in the second half for the Crimson Hawks were Glasshagel, Beck, Berlin,
Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) and
Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth).
Vogt had four assists on the day while Lodovici and Zakrzewski each had two. Katherine Davis started and went the entire way in the net for IUP, posting her second win of the season with six saves.
The Crimson Hawks hit the road this weekend with road games at Kutztown and West Chester, the top team in the PSAC. They'll finish up the regular season at home next Thursday as they battle Lock Haven, fighting to remain in the top six for their first conference tournament berth.
