Lacrosse Rolls to 17-11 Win Over Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, PA – Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored a team -high five goals and Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) tallied four as the IUP women's lacrosse team rolled to a 17-11 win over Kutztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Friday.

Glasshagel was hot from the opening draw Friday, scoring the game's first three goals to give IUP a 3-0 lead less than eight minutes into the action. After Leann Pica scored to get Kutztown on the board, the Crimson Hawks would rip off five straight goals to take a commanding 8-1 lead at the half.

Michelle Zakrewski scored two goals in the run while Glasshagel, Lodovici and Sarah Ward (Murrysville/Franklin Regional ) scored as well.

Kutztown would pull within six early in the second half when Lauren Schlitt scored just three minutes in, but Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) would give the Crimson Hawks an 9-2 lead just a minute later when scored off of an assist from Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier).

The Golden Bears would not back down, however, going on a 5-1 run over the next 12 minutes to trim the IUP lead to 10-7 with 11:44 to play in the game. Rosa Buffolino scored all five goals for Kutztown in the run.

The Crimson Hawks would respond with a 5-1 run of their own to bump the lead back up to seven thanks to three goals from Lodovici and scores by Berlin and Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier).

Kutztown would make one more push late in the game when Buffolino and Jillian Spencer scored to trim the lead to five, but Lodovici and Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) would both net goals for IUP to seal the victory.

Lodovici finished with five goals and two assists for the Crimson Hawks, while Glasshagel had four goals on six shots. Katherine Davis played just under 45 minutes in goal for IUP and had five saves in the win.

With the win, IUP improves to 10-4, 6-3 in the PSAC. The Crimson Hawks continue their eastern road trip tomorrow when they take on West Chester at 1:00 p.m.
