No. 12 Lacrosse Wins Relatively Low-Scoring Game over Edinboro

INDIANA, PA - Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored two goals, picked up six ground balls and forced four turnovers as No. 12 IUP defeated Edinboro 14-6 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Tuesday evening at Miller Stadium.

The game started out slow, as both teams went scoreless until Edinboro (5-5, 1-4) got on the board with a Courtney Hey goal at the 21:23 mark of the first half. There would be another scoreless streak, this one nearly five minutes, before the Crimson Hawks knotted the score with a free position goal from Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) with 16:48 left.

It didn't take the Fighting Scots long to get back on top, as Shannon Rohrich put Edinboro up 2-1 just 18 seconds later.

That's when IUP went on a run, scoring four straight goals over a 4:09 span to take a 5-2 lead. Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) got the first goal before Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) added the second and Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added two of her own.

Edinboro would score one more before half to make it 5-3, but the Crimson Hawks closed out the first with two goals in the final 36 seconds, including one from Jessica Beck (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) with 13 seconds left, to go into the break up 7-3.

The Fighting Scots came out in the second half with two straight goals in the first 2:38 to close their game to just two, but IUP responded with a 3-0 run, getting a pair of goals from Berlin and another from Lodovici, to go on top 10-5 with 19:57 left in the game.

After one final goal by Edinboro, the Crimson Hawks closed out the game with four straight goals, including a pair from Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion), as IUP finished off the eight-point win.

Rohrich led the Fighting Scots with three goals and four ground balls while Teresa Fiori had 11 saves in the net.

Lodovici scored a game-high five goals for IUP as six other Crimson Hawks scored at least one. Defensively IUP had 18 caused turnovers, with Kiera Huntsman (Elverson/Kimberton) getting three. Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) started and had four saves in goal during the first half for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP (8-1, 5-0) hit the road for its next game, traveling to face Slippery Rock in the Crimson Hawks first PSAC road game of the season.
