Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) and
Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each scored three goals, but The Rock outscored the Crimson Hawks 11-6 in the second half as No. 12 IUP was upset by Slippery Rock 18-13 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division women's lacrosse matchup on Thursday evening.
The Rock scored two of the first three goals of the game to take a 2-1 lead 5:05 into the game.
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) would score a goal to tie the game at 2-2 at the 19:56 mark before Slippery Rock scored two of the next three to take a 5-3 lead with 10:34 to go in the first.
The Crimson Hawks (8-2, 5-1) came back with three straight goals, getting one each from
Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame),
Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), and
Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) to take a 6-5 lead with 4:08 left before the half.
Slippery Rock then took two straight goals, with Berlin notching one final goal before the half, as the game would go into halftime tied at 7-7 apiece.
The Crimson Hawks scored first in the second half as Berlin threaded a free position goal a minute into the half to put IUP up 8-7. The Rock tied it at 8-8 almost two minutes later before Lodovici's goal at the 25:39 mark made it a 9-8 IUP advantage. Slippery Rock then scored three straight goals to take an 11-9 lead before IUP came right back to go up 12-11, getting goals from Bianco, Tenly Seidel and Miller to go on top 12-11 with 17:22 left in the game.
That's when The Rock took control, going on a 6-0 run over a 12:15 span to take a commanding 17-12 lead with 4:01 remaining. The Crimson Hawks added one goal from
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) with 1:34 remaining, but The Rock held on for the five-goal upset victory.
Lauren Laubach had a game-high six goals for Slippery Rock while Casey Quinn added four. Amy Halls added three for The Rock while Natalie Crenshaw had 12 saves in 60 minutes for Slippery Rock.
Berlin added an assist to go with her three goals whlie Lodovici and Miller each had a pair of goals for the Crimson Hawks.
Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) had 10 saves in 60 minutes, getting seven saves in the first half.
The Crimson Hawks (8-2, 5-1) are now tied with West Chester for first in the PSAC. They'll host Mercyhurst next Wednesday, with opening draw at 4:00 p.m. from Miller Stadium.
