MILLERSVILLE, PA – The Crimson Hawks outscored Millersville 12-4 in the second half as IUP remained undefeated with a 22-12 victory over the Marauders in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse opener on Wednesday.

Holding a slim 10-8 lead at halftime, thanks in large part to a 6-0 run, the Crimson Hawks used another six consecutive goals in the second half to secure the win and move to 4-0 on the season.

It was the first loss of the season for Millersville as the Marauders fell to 4-1.

Four different Crimson Hawks cashed in at least four goals, including Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) who scored four and assisted on six others.

Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley), Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) and Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each added four goals apiece.

The Marauders held a 3-1 lead in the first before Lodovici bookended that 6-0 run with a pair of goals at the beginning and a third at the end to put IUP on top 7-3 with 18:12 on the clock. Millersville fought back by scoring four of the next five goals but IUP added two more in the final four minutes to take a two-goal lead into the break.

Berlin, Hayden and Lodovici scored four of the next five goals to put the Crimson Hawks on top by five and after a Millersville goal Lodovici started that other 6-0 to make it a 20-10 game with 11:07 left to play.

That would prove to be enough as the two remaining Millersville goals were answered by Lillienne Kane (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) and Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) in the 10-goal victory.

Lodovici and Berlin each had a team-high six ground balls while Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) picked up five draw controls and caused two turnovers.

Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) started in the net and went nearly 40 minutes in picking up the win. Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) played 20 minutes with five saves.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Edinboro on Saturday.
