INDIANA, PA –
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) became the all-time leader goal-and-point-scorer in IUP women's lacrosse history in the Crimson Hawks 18-9 win over visiting Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Tuesday afternoon.
With four goals Lodovici moved past Amy Hood (2002-05) for first place all-time with 137 career goals at IUP. Her very first goal of the afternoon also broke a tie with
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (2009-12) for the most points in program history and with six on the day now has 238 for her career.
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) also scored four goals today for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the PSAC.
Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and
Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) each scored three goals while
Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) added a pair.
Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) was a force on the defensive end with eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls, adding two draw controls.
Lodovici broke the scoring record at the 23:04 mark of the first half, helping the Crimson Hawks jump out to a 6-1 lead less than 14 minutes into the game. Shippensburg stopped IUP's 5-0 run with a goal from Courtney Kennedy but the Crimson Hawks added three more goals to the Raiders one to go into halftime with a 9-3 lead.
Weinberg helped IUP go on a 5-1 run to start the second half as the Crimson Hawks took a 10-point lead at 14-4 with 22:49 remaining.
Shippensburg (3-6, 0-3) responded with a goal-scoring streak of its own, going a 4-0 run to make it 14-8 with 13:26 left on the clock. A goal by Berlin stopped the run and with 4:56 left Lodovici put the finishing touches on her record-breaking day with her fourth goal of the game as IUP streaked to the nine-point win.
Lindsey Kennedy led Shippensburg with seven points, netting three goals and four assists.
Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) and
Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) again split time in the net for the Crimson Hawks, combining for 14 saves on the day.
The Crimson Hawks hit the road this weekend as they play Bloomsburg on Friday afternoon and East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
