Men Post Sixth Place Finish at PSAC Indoor Championships

LEWISBURG, PA – The Crimson Hawks had three top five finishes as IUP wrapped up the final day of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships at Bucknell.

IUP finished the weekend with in sixth place overall with 35 points in the two-day championship event.

Joe Lynch (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had the top men's finish on Sunday, coming in third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.04. That time was also an NCAA provisional mark.

Victor Costello (Moscow/North Pocono) picked up two top finishes for the Crimson Hawks, coming in fourth in the mile and eighth in the 3000 meter run. He finished with a time of 4:16.50 in the mile and 8:42.53 in the 3000.

The men's 4x400 meter relay finished fifth with a time of 3:22.60. 

In the field events, Michael Turner (Philadelphia/Carver) and Jeremy Claypoole (Bellwood, Pa. /Bellwood-Antis) each posted top eight finishes. Turner was sixth in the shot put, posting a toss of 15.14 meters (49-08.25). Claypoole finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 13.57 meters (44-06.25).

Shippensburg won the team title for the men, finishing with 211 points. East Stroudsburg was second with 109 and Slippery Rock finished third with 100.50 points. Lock Haven and Seton Hill finished right in front of IUP in fourth (85.5 points) and fifth (51), respectively.

IUP will now wait to see if any athletes are selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, which will take place on March 14-15 in Winston Salem, N.C.
