No. 8 Crimson Hawks Fly Past Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, PA – Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall) and Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley) each scored a career-high five goals to help the eighth-ranked IUP women's lacrosse team to an easy 21-7 win over Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on Friday evening.

The win was the Crimson Hawks' fourth in a row as they improve to 6-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the PSAC. The last two wins have come by a combined 24 points, including today's 14-point victory.

IUP scored the first five goals of the game, with Hooven netting her hat trick less than five minutes in. Millersville scored three of the next four goals as IUP's goal scoring fell off, cutting the Crimson Hawks' lead to 6-3 with 4:17 to go in the half.

Palardy got things going again with less than three minutes go to with back-to-back goes and the Crimson Hawks took an 8-4 lead into the break.

Palardy kept it up in the second half, getting two of IUP's first four goals as the Crimson Hawks took a 12-4 lead at the 21:21 mark of the second half.

Millersville netted three goals the rest of the game, but the half was highlighted by a 6-0 a run from the Crimson Hawks over a 9:40 span with a running clock. Five different players scored during the run, including Jamie Nicholson (Middletown, MD/Tuscarora), Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly), Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton), Ashley Hess (Mountain Top/Wyoming Seminary) and Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).

Also scoring goals for IUP was Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley), Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland) and Brenna Gallagher (Evans City/Seneca Valley).

Katie Davis (Owings Mills, MD/Mercy) went the entire way in the net for the Crimson Hawks, coming up with four saves and four ground balls. Palardy and Norwood also had four ground balls each while Norwood had seven draw controls and caused two turnovers.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action in two days when they host Alderson Broaddus in a non-conference matchup on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
