Box Score EDINBORO, PA – The seventh-ranked IUP women's lacrosse team extended its win-streak to five, defeating Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Edinboro 21-5 in conference action Tuesday afternoon.
In another five-goal performance from
Drew Hayden (Gibsonia/Pine Richland), the Crimson Hawks scored 12 goals in the first half and nine in the second, holding the Fighting Scots to just two in the first and three in the second.
The Crimson Hawks dominated every aspect, outshooting Edinboro 35-10. IUP goaltenders were forced to make just two saves in the entire game, both coming in the first half of play, as both offense and defense shined.
Hayden got IUP on the board early on, connecting on her 24
th and 25
th goals of the season at the 27:03 and 26:46 minute marks to give the Crimson Hawks the 2-0 lead.
Edinboro's Emily Peters would answer less than a minute later, cutting the IUP lead to just one.
The Crimson Hawks, however, responded scoring nine unanswered goals over the next 14 minutes of play to take the 11-1 lead. The two teams exchanged goals to close out the first half, and IUP headed into the break with the 12-2 advantage.
In the second, Hayden picked up right where she left off, scoring her fifth goal of the afternoon to give IUP the 13-2 lead. Edinboro added another, but
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) followed that up with two quick goals, giving the Crimson Hawks the 12-goal advantage.
At the 13:49 minute mark in the second half, the Fighting Scots' Cydney Hrycko scored her 16
th of the season, followed by another quick Edinboro goal from Alexa Healy to pull within 10 of the IUP lead.
The Crimson Hawks' offense again ignited, rattling off six goals to finish the game and claim the 21-5 victory.
Ten IUP players got on the scoresheet, led by Hayden's five. Weinberg added four while
Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley),
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, MD/Perry Hall),
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and
Lillienne Kane (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) each recorded two.
Hayden was solid on both sides of the ball with two ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw control. On the defensive side of things,
Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) added six draw controls while
Alex Edwards (Bethlehem/Nazareth) added a caused turnover and five draw controls.
Hayden currently sits in 10
th place in the PSAC in goals per game with 3.11. Teammate Hooven checks in at 13
th with 3.00 per game. Weinberg's 4.44 points per game is good for 9
th in the conference.
Defensively, Norwood ranks in the top 15 in ground balls, caused turnovers and draw controls per game. Her 3.00 ground balls per game is good for ninth, 2.56 caused turnovers per game is good for third and her 4.22 draw controls ranks eighth.
With the win, the Crimson Hawks improve to 7-2, 5-0 on the season, sitting atop the PSAC. They'll return home to face East Stroudsburg on Sunday in a 3 p.m. meeting with the Warriors.
