AT A GLANCE
The 12th-ranked IUP women's lacrosse team hosts Millersville on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. Opening draw from George P. Miller Stadium will be at 1 p.m. The Crimson Hawks earned the third seed in the tournament – and the right to host a quarterfinal game - after finishing with a 10-2 league record. Millersville finished as the sixth seed with a 7-5 PSAC mark.
THE TEAMS & SEEDS
Mercyhurst earned the first seed in the PSAC tournament and will host the semifinals and championship game in Erie on May 6 and 8, respectively. The Lakers and West Chester shared the conference regular season title with identical 11-1 league records, but a head-to-head win gave Mercyhurst the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Lock Haven (8-4) is the fourth seed and will host fifth seed Seton Hill (7-5) in the other quarterfinal on Saturday.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
The Crimson Hawks are looking for their third trip to the PSAC semifinals in the last four years. Each of the two previous times IUP went in as the No. 3 seed and fell to the No. 2 seed – 13-7 to Mercyhurst in 2014 and 7-6 to West Chester in 2013.
THE FIRST MEETING
The Crimson Hawks won the first meeting this year, 15-12 at Millersville back on March 19. Junior
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored four goals and senior
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) dished out five assists.
THE CRIMSON HAWKS IN THE PSAC TOURNAMENT
This is IUP's fifth straight appearance in the PSAC tournament, a streak that began in 2012 with the program's first winning league record (7-4). IUP secured the sixth seed that year, followed the third seed in 2013 and 2014 and the fifth seed last year. The Crimson Hawks have never been to the conference championship game.
THE ALL-AMERICAN DISHES IT OUT
Senior attacker
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) is looking to become the program's first three-time All-American with another dominating effort this season. She enters the postseason leading Division II in assists (63) and assists per game (3.71), and is also 11th in the nation with 79 total points. She already owns the PSAC career assist mark with 201 and is looking to break her own IUP single season mark of 67.
A FRESHMAN LEADING THE WAY
Freshman attacker
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) leads the Crimson Hawks and ranks ninth in the PSAC with 45 goals. She has 12 multi-goal games, including a season-high seven against Shippensburg on March 26.
ON THE DEFENSIVE
IUP is fifth in the PSAC with 9.20 goals against per game. Sophomore goalie
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) is fifth individually with an 8.74 goals against average and is second in the conference with a .506 save percentage. Senior defender
Brenna Gallagher (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) leads the team with 23 caused turnovers and 44 grounds balls.
