ERIE, Pa. – Sophomore
Jeremy Eckenrode (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) finished fifth overall as IUP men's golf came in third as a team at Gannon University's Howard "Bud" Elwell Fall Classic. Play wrapped up on Monday at the Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie.
Eckenrode finished five strokes back with a seven-over 151 in the two-round event. He improved five spots after the opening round, shooting a two-over 74 on Monday.

The finish was Eckenrode's best at IUP since tying for fifth at the 2016 Hal Hansen Invitational.
The Crimson Hawks finished with a 47-over 623 as a team, 16 strokes back of tournament winner Gannon (607). The Golden Knights posted the best round of the tournament with a 299 on Monday. Mercyhurst, which led after the opening round, finished in second place with a 44-over 620.
Also competing were Clarion (648), Pitt-Johnstown (653), Humber (ON) College (655), Daemen (663), and Gannon's B squad (691).
IUP senior
Joshua Bartley (Valencia, Pa./Mars) finished tied for 10th with a 10-over 154, three strokes back of Eckenrode. The two were tied after Sunday, with Bartley shooting a five-over 77 in the second round.
All five IUP players finished in the top 20, including junior
Matt Cocorikis (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) and senior
Michael Hoare (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tying for 16th with a 16-over 160, and sophomore
Nate Guerrini (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) tied for 19th with a 19-over 163.
Playing as individuals, senior
Tyler Erb (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) and freshman
Carter Snowden (Kitchener, ON, Canada/Huron Heights) finished with scores of 167 and 170, good for 24th and a tie for 27th, respectively.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks are back on the course in two weeks when they compete in the LeMoyne College Fall Invitational in Cicero, N.Y. It'll be the final tune-up before IUP defends its conference championship in Hershey on Oct. 21-22.
