INDIANA, Pa. – The second and final round of the 55th annual Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational at the Indiana Country Club has been canceled due to continuous rain Sunday night into Monday. After a single round of play, the IUP men's golf team finished the tournament tied for seventh overall.
The Crimson Hawks shot a 23-over 307 in Sunday's first round and finished 11 strokes back of eventual tournament champion Millersville (12-over, 296).
Charleston finished second with a 13-over 297, Le Moyne third with a 15-over 299, Gannon fourth with a 16-over 300, and West Chester Fifth with 18-over 302.
Individually, IUP's
Michael Hoare (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Jeremy Eckenrode (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) tied for 15th overall by shooting a four-over 75. Millersville's Ron Yanoski won medalist honors by shooting a one-under 70 Monday.
Also golfing on IUP's five-man team were
Joshua Bartley (Valencia, Pa./Mars),
Matt Cocorikis (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.), and
Nate Guerrini (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley). Bartley finished tied for 41st with a seven-over 78, Cocorikis tied for 48th with an eight-over 79, and Guerrini tied for 56th with a nine-over 80.
Going as individuals from IUP were
Tyler Erb (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) and
Carter Snowden (Kitchener, ON, Canada/Huron Heights), who tied for 63rd with an 11-over 82.
Up next
This was IUP's final action before the 2018 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Region Championships, May 7-9 at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.Va.
Clinching an automatic bid for the tournament by virtue of their PSAC championship in the fall, the Crimson Hawks will be making the program's 22nd straight appearance at regionals.
